Welcome to 2026: A Year of Momentum for Food Science and IFT

Dear Aksarben IFT Members,

Happy New Year! I hope each of you enjoyed a restful and meaningful holiday season. As we begin 2026, I want to extend a warm welcome on behalf of the Aksarben Section leadership team. We’re energized for the year ahead and excited for the opportunities to strengthen our community, elevate our profession, and continue advancing the science of food together.

IFT’s Growing Influence and National Advocacy

One of the most encouraging developments this past year has been the continued rise of IFT’s visibility and influence in national and global conversations around food science, public policy, and the future of the food system.

IFT has been actively advocating for science‐based understanding in mass media—ensuring that food scientists’ perspectives are represented, that misinformation is countered, and that policymakers and the public hear from credible experts.

IFT also played a prominent role in advocacy and public‐policy–focused coverage, such as emerging legislative efforts, ingredient regulatory discussions, and broader conversations about the future of the food system.

These stories represent millions of public impressions—and more importantly, they demonstrate that IFT is successfully positioning food scientists as trusted voices in debates that shape our industry and our society.

What This Means For Our Section

As members of the Aksarben Section, we are part of a growing national network that is raising the visibility of our profession. This momentum supports our own efforts here in Nebraska and across the region—whether we’re engaging students, partnering with industry, or creating opportunities for learning and connection within our local food science community.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll share updates on our winter meeting, student programming, the Spring Expo, and additional ways to get involved. Your participation and leadership are what make our section strong, and we’re grateful for everything you do.

Thank you again for your continued engagement. Here’s to a productive, inspiring, and connected 2026!

All the best,

Rodney Green
President, Aksarben Section
